Adorable Aakanksha Singh rose to fame with her girl-next-door role in Colors popular show 'Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha'. The simple, down-to-earth actress is waiting to shine again on small screen. We recently caught up with this bubbly girl, here she talks about her journey till date. Excerpts from her interview:
Tell us bit about your family background?
I belong to a quite studious family. My grandfather was retired principle, my dad is lecturer and my mother is government teacher.
You have been from a scholar family, how did acting happen to you??
Well I recently completed my graduation and now officially I am a physiotherapist. Actually, my mom was theatre artist. Her first play was with an actor par excellence Irrfan Khan. My mom wanted to become actress, but she left theatre after she got married. So now, I am living her dream.
How did you get your first break?
In 2005 when I was in 10th standard my elder sister, who was an anchor asked me to do a role in a Rajastani play. I was initially reluctant as I haven't faced the audience before. But my sister somehow managed to convince me. It was my first experience as an actor and I got the good response from the audience. After that I was smitten by acting bug and did theatre till 2010. During that period I worked in many plays like 'Subah' and 'Naagmandal'.
How you bagged Na Bole Tum?
When I was doing theatre in Jaipur, one of teacher who was a director asked me to come for audition. At that time I had a perception, ye sab audition vudition dikhaawa hota hai. But then I went for an audition, unfortunately nothing happened at that time.
Go on..
Later after one year, Sudhir (Sharma) sir called and asked me to come for an audition in Mumbai. At that time, I was in 2nd year of physio. I took the audition call very lightly and told them that I cannot travel from Jaipur to Mumbai. As I couldn't come, I recorded an audition and sent it across. After 10 days I received the call from them. Fortunately they shortlisted me to play Megha in Na Bole Tum.
Who inspired you to join Glamour world?
My mom is my biggest inspiration. She and my elder sister pushed me to join this field. Apart from that I always look inspiration from Smita Patil, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi. They are just brilliant and natural actors.
TAM ratings decide upcoming tracks and future of daily soaps. Do you believe in this system?
Frankly speaking, I don't know much about it. I think, any show which has good concept and fan following should not go off air because of lack of TRP's.
Do you ever Google yourself?
I used to Google myself during my initial days. But now I have stopped Googling myself.
Are you on any social networking site?
Yes, I am there on twitter and Facebook. Networking sites are a great way for one to stay in touch with your fans, you get to know what your audience like or dislike.
Have you ever got negative response from viewers?
Touchwood, I mostly got positive feedback . Sometimes they criticize you, but then I took it with a pinch of salt.
What are the best and worst parts of being a TV actor?
Television is no more an idiot box now. Being a daily soap actor we get's more visibility as viewers can see us every day. We get name and fame, monetary wise this field is very good. But, then your personal life is totally ruined. We work round the clock, so we hardly get time for ourselves.
Are you open to do reality shows like Jhalak, Nach Baliye or Bigg Boss?
Bigg Boss is not my cup of tea, as I cannot live without my family for 3 months. I am open to do Jhalak or Nach Baliye, but I love to take part in singing reality show.
Are you a trained singer?
I have not taken any professional training, but I do sing well.
What does love mean to you?
You can't actually describe what Love is. It's a blend of all saath ras. Be it anger, happiness or fear, Love comprises of all emotions. Love is about respect and care about the person you Love.
Are you a diehard romantic?
I think you are asking this question to a wrong person. You must ask this to my fiancé (Kunal Sain), he is the best person to answer it.
Is marriage on the cards?
Talks are on, our families will decide the marriage date.
