TAM Ratings Week 49, 2014: TVM(TRP) & GVT(GRP)

Hindi GEC genre leader Star Plus and Colors were the only gainers in terms of viewership in the week ended 6 December.

While Star Plus gained 17 GVMs (gross television viewership in million), Colors added 9 GVMs. Epic, which launched recently, also saw viewership gain, collecting 3.7 GVMs in the week.

The pecking order remained unchanged in Week 49, as per TAM data (sourced from subscribers) for the Hindi-speaking market.


Here is how the Hindi GECs performed:

• Star Plus continued its reign with 642 GVMs, up from 625 GVMs in the trailing week. 
• Colors was at No. 2 with 476 GVMs, up from 467 GVMs. 
• Zee TV was at No. 3 with 419 GVMs, down from 435 GVMs.
• Life OK was at No. 4 with 296 GVMs, down from 324 GVMs. 
• SAB was at No. 5 with 281 GVMs, down from 299 GVMs. 
• SET was at No. 6 with 226 GVMs, down from 230 GVMs. 
• Sony Pal was at No. 7 with 33 GVMs, same as the previous week. 
• Zindagi was at No. 8 with 31 GVMs, same as the previous week
• Sahara One was at No. 9 with 10 GVMs, compared to 9 GVMs in the trailing week.
• Epic collected 3.7 GVMs, up from 2.9 a week ago

TAM Ratings Week 48, 2014: Sony & SAB are the biggest gainers..

Sony Entertainment Television (SET) and SAB were the biggest gainers in terms of viewership in the week ended 29 November. Each of the two Hindi general entertainment channels (GECs) from Multi Screen Media (MSM) added over 20 GVMs (gross television viewership in million).

Sony Pal, the youngest member of the group, added 2 GVMs.



Though Colors witnessed a fall of 15 GVMs, it continued to be the second most-viewed GEC. The pecking order remained unchanged in Week 48, as per TAM data for the Hindi-speaking markets.

Meanwhile, Epic, the segmented Hindi entertainment channel, which launched on 19 November 2014, clocked 2.9 GVMs in its full one-week run.

Here is how the Hindi GECs performed:

TAM RATINGS Week 47, 2014: Doordarshan National is No. 1 among All GECs

Leaving behind the top touted GECs, Doordarshan National jumped to number one position in all Hindi GECs during afternoon time(12:00pm-3:00pm) in weekdays in All India 1Mn+ markets with average 448 thousands viewership in average last twelve weeks(Wk 35’14- Wk 46’14) in all 4+TG.

As reported by TAM, Doordarshan National was at the top with 448 Gross Viewership in Thousands (GVTs) followed by Star Plus with 436 GVTs, Life OK with 391 GVTs.

This spurt in viewership is the direct result of the channel’s strategy to provide the viewers with fresh content in their afternoon slot- ‘DD Dopahar’, while the other major GECs were still running their repeat telecast.

While in the evening slot (7:00pm-11:00pm) Doordarshan National is ahead than Sony TV, Life Ok with 566 GVTs in All India 1 Mn+ market, average last twelve weeks(Wk 35’14- Wk 46’14) in all 4+TG.

TAM RATINGS Week 47, 2014: Nick continues to rule the kids genre..

In Week 47 of the TAM’s TV ratings, once again the mainstay kids channel from Viacom18 – Nick – continues to rule the kiddy TV world with 233 TVTs no change from wk 46.

Coming in at second place was Hungama with 215 TVTs (187 TVTs), the channel has managed to race past its elder sibling this week as Disney shed 14 TVTs (197 TVTs) to land up with 183 TVTs at number 4. Cartoon Network is now at number 3 with 198 TVTs (194 TVTs). And finally with 186 TVTs Pogo took the fifth position once again this week.

In terms of the reach of the channels, Nick was at 40 per cent followed by Cartoon Network at 39 per cent.

The ranking order of the six topmost Hindi general entertainment channels (GECs) remained the same in the week 47 of TAM TV ratings. The channel’s to gain this week are Zee TV, Life OK and Sony Entertainment Television (SET).

Thus, Zee TV at number three reported 433 million GVTs, up from 419 million GVTs, Life OK continues to have a strong run at number four with 326 million GVTs, up from 313 million GVTs and SET at number six garnered 207 million GVTs, up from 190 million GVTs.

The numero uno Star Plus scored 631 million GVTs, down from 658 million GVTs, Colors at number two recorded 482 million GVTs, down from 483 million GVTs and Sab noted 276 million GVTs, down from 296 million GVTs at number five.

On the other hand, Big Magic stood at 69 million GVTs, up from 61 million GVTs.

Zindagi and Sony Pal shared the same position with 30 million GVTs.

Epic, the segmented Hindi entertainment channel which launched on 19 November, managed to clock just 1.2 GVMs (gross television viewership in million) in its three-and-a-half-day run.

Sahara One was at No 9 with 10 GVMs compared to 9 in the previous week.

TAM Ratings Week 46, 2014: In Regional channels, 'Big Magic Ganga' topped the TAM chart

In the week 46 of TAM TV ratings, let’s take a look at how the regional channels have fared in the Bihar + Jharkhand region in the CS4+ market.

The channel to top in the category was Big Magic Ganga that registered 991 GVTs. Mahuaa Plus ranked second with 697 GVTs and Anjan at number three tracked 672 GVTs.

In the Marathi general entertainment channel (GEC) space, Z Marathi topped the chart with 143,455 GVTs across Maharashtra. Star Pravah stood second with 50,409 GVTs and ETV Marathi at number three with 49,458 GVTs.

In the West Bengal market, Star Jalsha ranked number one with 115,238 GVTs, followed by Z Bangla with 78,636 GVTs and ETV Bangla with 22,960 GVTs at number three.

In the Tamil GEC space, Sun TV topped the chart with 230,133 GVTs followed by Star Vijay with 63,558 GVTs and Polimer ranking number three with 20,822 GVTs.

Talking about the Karnataka region, Udaya stood at number one spot in the Kannada GEC space with 68,991 GVTs. ETV Kannada ranked second with 51,316 GVTs and Suvarna at number three scored 41,041 GVTs.

In the Telugu GEC space, Maa TV topped with 109,503 GVTs followed by Gemini with 95,293 GVTs and Z Telugu observed number three position with 90,729 GVTs.

Lastly, in the Kerala region; Asianet scored the highest in the Malayalam category with 48,912 GVTs. Surya TV stood at number two with 13,835 GVTs and Asianet Plus ranked number three with 4,189 GVTs.

TAM Ratings Week 46, 2014: Star Plus and Zee TV big gain..

Week 46 ratings of the Hindi GEC universe saw an increase in most of the channels ratings except for Sony Entertainment Television (SET) that saw a massive drop in its ratings.

According to data from TAM subscribers week 46 (November 9 to 15, 2014), Star Plus at the top gained from last week as its ratings rose to 658 million GVTs in week 46 from 610 million GVTs in week 45.

At No.2 is Colors, which witnessed a marginal drop this week as its ratings for week 46 was 483 million GVTs from 486 million GVTs in week 45. However, the channel stayed comfortably in second position.

Zee TV made a gain in ratings as it jumped 419 million GVTs this week from 394 million GVTs last week. This comes as good news for the channel which  has witnessed slight setbacks in its ratings in recent weeks on the Hindi GEC charts.

 Life OK too saw an increase in its ratings this week as it increased from 305 million GVTs in week 45 to 313 million GVTs in week 46. Life OK that just managed to get back to No.4 spot last week strengthened its position in this week.

SAB TV at No.5 spot too gained in its ratings and increased to 296 million GVTs this week from 285 million GVTs in week 45.

SET saw a huge dip in its ratings as the channel declined to 190 million GVTs in week 46 from 245 million GVTs in week 45. This comes as a setback for the channel which has been struggling since the last couple of months to get its ratings up.

Big Magic saw a decline in its ratings this week as it recorded 61 million GVTs from 69 million GVTs in week 45. Although Big Magic witnessed a decline in ratings it managed to stay head of Rishtey despite an increase in its ratings this week. Rishtey increased to 52 million GVTs in week 46 from 44 million GVTs in week 45.

Among the new GECs, Sony PAL gained marginally as it increased from 31 million GVTs in week 45 to 32 million GVTs in week 46. Zindagi on the other hand witnessed a decline this week in its ratings as it slipped from 31 million GVTs last week to 29 million GVTs this week.

Sahara One’s ratings decline further to 9 million GVTs this week from 10 million GVTs in last week.

TAM Ratings Week 45, 2014: DD National gains big in week 45 of TAM ratings

Doordarshan National - ‘Desh ka apna Channel’, showed its biggest gain of 67 TVM in the week-45 ending on 8 November, according to the latest report of TAM.

While the other major GECs have shed weight in terms of their viewership, Doordarshan National seems to be gaining ground propelled by its massive campaign of channel relaunch.

According to TAM data, DD National garnered a viewership of 218 million signifying a bumper 40 per cent increase compared to week-44, with more than 90 per cent of increase coming from Cable and satellite homes.

The viewership of mid-prime time slot also seems to be rising steadily with an increase of about 12 per cent. Among the programmes in this slot, ‘Anudamini’ showed maximum gain in terms of viewership by 17 per cent, followed by ‘Amrita’ with 15 per cent gain.

Some of the other top programmes which have shown a rise in TVM are ‘Bharat ki Shaan – Let’s Dance’, ‘Pavitra Bandhan’, the film song programme ‘Rangoli’, ‘Samman ek Adhikar’, ‘Vande Matram’ and ‘Sohni Mahiwal’.

With a slew of new programmes in the prime-time slot starting today and a brand new look, Doordarshan National will look to gain higher on TAM charts in the coming weeks.

TAM RATINGS Week 45, 2014: Colors continues to rise

After a good show where all the general entertainment channels (GECs) witnessed a rise in the viewership, week 45 of TAM TV ratings had a different story to tell. Most of the GECs observed a fall in the ratings.

The only channels to see a growth was Colors while Life OK remained stable. Colors continued its strong hold at number two with 486 million GVTs, up from 457 million GVTs. Life OK at number five stood at 305 million GVTs.

Amongst the losers this week, the numero uno Star Plus observed a significant fall and reported 610 million GVTs, down from 655 million GVTs. Zee TV at number three recorded 394 million GVTs, down from 405 million GVTs.

Despite a drop, Sab enjoyed its position at number four with 285 million GVTs, down from 307 million GVTs.

Sony Entertainment Television (SET) delivered 245 million GVTs, down from 285 million GVTs.

On the other hand, Big Magic saw a marginal growth with 69 million GVTs, up from 56 million GVTs.

Rishtey saw its ratings dip from 50 million GVTs in week 44 to 44 million GVTs in week 45.

Zindagi and Sony Pal shared the shared the same spot and viewership with 31 million GVTs.

Sahara One saw its ratings stay the same in week 45 from the previous week at 10 million GVTs.

TAM RATINGS Week 43, 2014: SAB TV dislodges Life OK from 4th position

In the week 43 of TAM TV ratings, Sony Entertainment Television’s (SET) sister channel-SAB TV has been served with a pleasant surprise. The channel has surpassed Life OK and taken the number four spot at the ratings chart. It saw a significant growth and delivered 287 million GVTs, up from 228 million GVTs in the previous week. All the other general entertainment channels (GECs) saw a drop in their viewership.

Star Plus continues to lead the pack with 595 million GVTs, down from 601 million GVTs last week.

Colors stands strong at number two with 432 million GVTs, down from 436 million GVTs.

Life OK moved to number five with 257 million GVTs, down from 302 million GVTs.

SET noted 248 million GVTs, down from 276 million GVTs.

TAM RATINGS Week 41, 2014: TVM(TRP) & GVT(GRP)

Week 41 saw a slight increase in most channels’ ratings with the exception of Life OK, which saw a small decline. There were no changes in the ranking of the channels from last week. According to data from TAM subscribers week 41 (October 5 – 11, 2014), leader Star Plus increase from 549 million GVTs in week 40 (September 28 – October 4, 2014), to 598 million GVTs in week 41. The channel managed to recover from the loss in the previous week’s ratings dip.

Colors maintained its No.2 spot on the ratings chart despite staying put in the viewership points. The channel did not see a gain or fall in the ratings this week which was at 433 million GVTs. This comes as a set back with the momentum that it build up in the ratings and managed to take second place.

In third place was Zee TV which saw a slight increase in its ratings from 401 million GVTs last week to 413 million GVTs this week. This is an improvement in the channels ratings that had recently seen a decline.

Like OK was the only channel to see a decline in its ratings this week. However, it has managed to stick onto the fourth spot despite these setbacks. This week its ratings marginally declined  from 299 million GVTs in week 40 to 292 million GVTs in week 41. In week 40 it had declined to 299 million GVTs from 307 million GVTs in week 39.

SAB TV maintained its spot at No.5 with an increase in week 41 to 273 million GVTs from 254 million GVTs in week 40. This is a recovery for the channel as it had seen its ratings decline in the previous week.

Sony Entertainment Television (SET) too saw its ratings increase marginally to 245 million GVTs in week 41 from 234 million GVTs in week 40.

New comers, Sony Pal and Zindagi, did not see much difference since last week. While Sony Pal continued its march forward, Zindagi did not see any change in its ratings since last week. Sony Pal at No.7 spot marginally increased to 26 million GVTs this week from 23 million GVTs last week.

Zindagi at No.8 spot saw its ratings unchanged at 20 million GVTs.

Finally, Sahara One remained at the bottom with a marginal increase to 12 million GVTs this week in 10 million GVTs in week 40.

TAM RATINGS Week 41, 2014: Nick rules the kids genre..

Looks like the Kids’ genre on Indian television has found a new leader with Nick once again leading the kiddie pack on Indian television with 257 TVTs as against its 247 TVTs in wk 40.

Coming in at second place was Hungama with 224 TVTs (225 TVTs), followed by Disney with 209 TVTs (211 TVTs). Cartoon Network shed 10 TVTs to land up with 197 TVTs and Pogo took the fifth position once again with 155 TVTs (163 TVTs).

In terms of the reach of the channels, Nick was at 41 per cent followed by Cartoon Network at 40 per cent.

Nick stands tall in week 40 TAM TV Ratings. The channel scored 247 TVTS up from 225 TVTs. Hungama rises to second place with 225 TVTs up from 192 TVTs.

Disney Channel India at third position recorded 211 TVTs down from 213 TVTs. At number four, Cartoon Network maintained its stability with 207 TVTs up from 195 TVTs. Pogo taking the fifth position with 163 TVTs up from 151 TVTs.

In terms of the reach of the channels, Nick was at 40 per cent followed by Cartoon Network at 39 per cent.
